Trinity Church teamed up with The Besom in York to launch their inaugural Serving Saturday event.
A group of nine from the church carried out a house decoration project for a family in Acomb, which was set up by the Besom Co-ordinator Becky Lewis.
Initiated by Trinity’s deacons, Serving Saturday will now become a regular event in the calendar, helping the church show God’s love in action.
Arriving armed with paint, brushes, rollers, ladders and plenty of snacks to sustain them, the group met the mum and her five children whose home they hoped to transform.
And then, having divided into three mini teams, they set to work painting the hallway, stair walls and landing.
“It was a fantastic day spent together serving a family in need, and a great opportunity to get to know one another better as a result. Outside of the clear call to serve our community and those in need around us, one of the other reasons we are keen as a church to be involved with this kind of work is the fellowship we can build and share together.” – Rob, Deacon, Trinity Church York
As phase one finished up, two of the team began in the downstairs bathroom before a really encouraging day’s work ended with painting the living room.
“One of the great things about being involved with work like this is the people you get to meet who you’d never have met otherwise. It was a privilege to meet the mum and hear a bit about her life, and it was a blessing to us to be able to help her and see how pleased she was with the end result of the work.” – Tim, Deacon, Trinity Church York
